In further automation, I tired of logging in and opening and resizing xterms, so taking bits from the mythtv wiki, I set up my desktop to automatically log me in and start all my usual programs.

Note to self: Next time you’re being taken hostage, and the hostage taker apparently has a moment of weakness and gives up his guns, make sure to disarm them before passing them on to the policeman (who actually turns out to be an accomplice).

It’s getting people other than myself contributing to it, such that I’ve had to learn how to set up subversion for multiple users :O

Went swimming for the first time in several years, managed 512m \o\ Goggles definately help; 12 lengths without were painful even with a rest at each end, 4 lengths with were fine~

Time setting up router + xen host, mail, web, file, dhcp/dns, and media servers - 4 hours, of which the majority was just waiting for packages to download.

Chai (router) and Aru (server) are being turned off for the first time in 4 months; chai is retiring for now, aru is becoming a router + xen server.

My new year's party balanced out my christmas -- all my friends who had said that they'd come round decided they'd rather be off doing family things, but none of them told me that they weren't coming until I double checked at the last minute.

Garden State is a very nice film; I just finished watching it with my sister -- it's the first film we've watched uninterrupted for ages.

I have had a shish kebab, for the first time ever.

The london expo was much like previous years, but as with LWE, it's getting noticably cheaper -- whereas a couple of years ago everyone in the queue was given a carrier bag full of free stuff (card games, DVDs, posters, magazines), this year we were allow…

The business side was quite shiny, with demos of things like the accelerated desktop, and multiple terminals running on one PC.

Having been done with shopping, I went on a wander around canterbury town, mostly looking for somewhere to sit.

Having tried mozilla calendar, evolution, and a couple of others, I found them all less efficient to work with than my phone calendar -- the only desktop calendar app I've seen which looks nice to work with being iCal, and that's OSX only D: But lo; google

Fresher's Week has been packed, such that I've been either going out or sleeping since I got here.

So long since the last post~ I'm now half way through my summer job, and have been meeting a variety of interesting programs: Cacti, which I spent most of today with -- it's like MRTG + RRDTool, but with considerably less hand typing of huge config files.
