An earlier version of this was shared in the June letter I swiped one of my kid’s drawings last winter.

I ended up taking a PTO day to prep for honey extraction day.

Not so much a full report as me not being able to contain my curiosity.

After my visit to the cemetery bees on Friday, I was pretty alarmed at what I saw in the south hive.

Last week I’d peeked in the top of the north hive and realized the honey super was almost full!

Two main observations of note: I saw the queen in the south hive.

This afternoon I had a ticket to see the poet Kate Baer in conversation with some of my favorite booksellers at a bakery downtown.

Interesting pollen!

I didn’t take any photos at this inspection, but I tried a new thing where I set up my phone camera and dictated what was happening while recording a video.

I did my first full inspections of the year this weekend and observed some interesting things.

So sure, go ahead and ask yourself the famous Rilkean question: “Must I?”
