My Cochlear Implant Experience

Hard to believe that it’s now been five years since my second implant was activated, and seven since the first one.

Can’t believe that it’s now been 5 years since my first implant and 3 since my second.

It’s been four years today since my first (left) implant was activated, and a little over two years since the second, so I thought I’d check in.

Been a while since I posted here, mainly because there hasn’t been much new to report.

Despite the complication that happened during the revision surgery on my left ear, my recovery was very smooth and easy.

After months of waiting, my failing implant on the left was removed and replaced yesterday.

It occurred to me a few weeks ago that my insurance company’s website might have some indication of the status of my pre-authorization, and it turns out it does — there’s an “Authorizations and Referrals” page.

Not much new news, unfortunately.

As my friends have gotten older, more of them have started to experience some level of hearing loss, so occasionally someone asks me for advice, and it occurred to me that I could make a post here that I can just point people to when they ask.

In my last post, I mentioned that I’d noticed a decline in quality on the left side.
