  1. QSOE 0.2 release

The second QSOE release, v0.2, is out.

  2. v0.1 was a singular machine.

  3. HFI BIOS 1.3 released

HFI BIOS version 1.3 has been released.

  4. HFI BIOS: from idea to K3 support

On the 2nd of July I made the first commit in a repository called fu740-bios.

  5. For a few months there has been a compiler in my tree that I have said nothing about, and it has now done the one thing that made me want to write about it at last: it compiles the whole of QSOE/N — the Skimmer microkernel, taskman, the C library, the dyn…

  6. Two things happen in this release, and they turn out to be the same thing seen from opposite ends.

  7. The project of bringing up my GK-208 video card at the early boot stages turned out to be much bigger than originally envisioned — and the approach for accomplishing the goal had to change completely mid-course.

  8. What I'm working on right now

Since 2024 I've wanted one specific thing: a RISC-V board that feels like a real personal computer.

  9. A free QNX-like operating system (2003)

  12. QSOE/L: the same userspace, on seL4

The three QSOE/N posts ended with a promise — the other half of the umbrella, QSOE/L, the same userspace running on seL4.

  13. Part 2 left QSOE/N as a working operating system that had only ever run in QEMU.

  14. Part 1 ended with Skimmer at v0.5 — a sound microkernel with QNX-shape synchronous IPC, and nothing running on top of it.

  15. This is the first of three posts tracing QSOE/N from its first commit to its first boot on real hardware.

  16. How QSOE started

It was the first of April, and work on QRV — my port of QNX to RISC-V — was in full swing.
