  1. Succulent miniature landscapes

Being alpine native plants, succulents do exceptionally well on our balcony.

  2. Trachsellauenen from Stechelberg

Although I managed to fit in a few very pleasant walks while I was in England in July, it’s been a long time since I’ve done what I’d call a proper hike.

  3. Bringing the joy back

I’ve headed into the big list of drafts in the back end of my website because I’m in the mood for writing blog posts and sharing photos at the moment.

  4. It feels as if I’ve been writing about our autumn holiday in 2024 for a very long time.

  5. Looking back through my blog archive, I was quite surprised to realise that it’s been ten years since I last wrote about walking up to the Gemmenalphorn.

I’ve been an avid fan of R.E.M. since first hearing them whilst on holiday in 1990.

  9. Washing the stress away

It’s been a while since I’ve had any real urge to write and share a blog post.

  10. We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants in order to see more and farther than they do – not, of course, thanks to our own sharp eyesight or size, but because the size of the giants lifts us up.

  11. Modern WordPress makes almost any website possible, but success depends on clear communication and practical, long-lasting solutions — not technical complexity.

  12. Hard Knott from the pass road

During our time in the Lake District in 2024, I did a lone hike to the top of the fell which I’ve been driving past ever since first visiting the region in the 1990s.

  13. Random things in December 2025

Once again, I’m doing my best to get back to posting my monthly photographic reviews.

  14. The beach from the past

In 2023, I returned to the centrepoint of all my childhood holidays, where my family and I spent two weeks every summer in a simple cabin overlooking a curved beach and a rocky headland.

  15. Lunch at the glacier

As you will know if you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, or if you know me personally, experiences (which I sometimes call “adventures”) are very important to me.

  16. Random things in January 2026

It’s been over two years since I last published one of these, but I enjoyed doing them and so I think I might try and reboot my monthly photographic reviews.

  17. Reflecting on a reflection

When I was in my mid 20s and living in England, I used to be a member of the local camera club.

  18. The Matterhorn is now yours alone

Behind the scenes of filming sequences for an advert filmed by Swiss cinematographer Noah Malin, beginning with a challenging hike to the Hörnli Hut and then some dramatic drone sequences around and above the summit of the Matterhorn.

  19. Starting at the parking space and bus stop at Gschwandtenmaad last autumn, we headed up the side road towards Rufenenhubel, then along the farm track and across the meadows with magnificent views of the Läsisteck, Rosenlouwistock and the Engelhörner.

  20. Passing Sligachan

One of my photographic highlights of visits to the Isle of Skye is passing through Sligachan, where the main road takes you comparatively close to the Cuillin mountains.
