Danielle's Blog

In 2026, nearly everyone I interact with in tech wants to talk about AI.

Update (September 8, 2026): Async didn’t fix the timeouts.

I spend my days closer to how software ships than what it does, and the loudest thing in my world right now is AI.

This isn't my usual tech or career content.

Running Claude Code on my own machine was easy.

I find it ironic that I officially hold the title of DevOps Engineer, because I've always believed DevOps wasn't meant to be a job title.

Ever since I became a <a href="https://www.milb.com/hillsboro" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hillsboro Hops</a> season ticket holder, I've been manually adding each game to my calendar so I don't accidentally book something on a game night.

Over the course of my career, I've had some genuinely great managers.

Ever since AWS announced <a href="https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/durable-functions.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lambda durable functions</a> at re:Invent 2025, I've been wanting to try them on a real project.

I quit Facebook in 2020 when a former coworker was spreading misinformation about what was happening in Portland, OR.

Earlier this month I took the exam for the <a href="https://training.linuxfoundation.org/certification/kubernetes-cloud-native-associate/" target="_blank">Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA) certification</a> and passed.

At re:Invent 2022, Werner Vogels announced the preview of <a href="https://aws.amazon.com/application-composer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AWS Application Composer</a>.

My Background Disclaimer: this post details my experiences using Pop!

Every time I go out in public, I've noticed a trend.

As of re:Invent 2021, CDK v2 is <a href="https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2021/12/aws-cloud-development-kit-cdk-generally-available/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">now generally available</a>. 🎉 This post includes a brief walkthrough…

One theme when talking about serverless computing that frequently comes up is that "serverless is event driven."

At Koan, our application’s frontend is a React Single Page Application running in two distinct environments (Staging and Production).

It was a cold and rainy day as I sat alone in my home office debugging Webpack config errors.

What We're Building Previously, I had used <a href="https://aws.amazon.com/serverless/sam/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AWS SAM</a> to build a <a href="https://github.com/deeheber/note-service" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CRUD…

If you know me, you've probably noticed that my technical specialities lately have been JavaScript and AWS Serverless.

In December 2020, AWS announced <a href="https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/modular-aws-sdk-for-javascript-is-now-generally-available/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">general availability</a> of version 3 of their SDK for JavaScript.

Every year since 2015, <a href="https://adventofcode.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Advent of Code</a> happens.

The Project Idea A few months ago, Github enabled the ability to add a README section to your profile in addition to the pinned repositories.

What is Console Driven Development (CDD)?

Background Earlier this year, I did a <a href="https://www.danielleheberling.xyz/blog/lambda-layer-example/" target="_blank" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">walk through demo</a> on how to use lambda layers with NodeJS.

The trend of the frontend and backend coming closer together is continuing and even has a name now...the <a href="https://jamstack.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jam stack</a>.
